Star Apple as an Antiseptic Mouthwash

The Philippine Science High School conducts a research about star apple (Chrysophyllum cainito L.) leaves which is an alternative mouthwash. Bacterial reproduction and colony formation were significantly inhibited by the peppermint gargle, the positive control, and the first concentration of star apple leaves decoction. The researchers concluded that the decoction prepared from the five cups of star apple leaves boiled in five cups of water is as effective as the proven gargle made out of peppermint extract. Therefore, it can be used as an alternative mouthwash.
