There have been many valuable finds since Heinrich Schliemann excited the world in the 1870s by discovering the remains of the ancient city of Troy. In 1889 Arthur Evans discovered the Minoan civilization of Knossos on the island of Crete. In 1922 Lord Carnarvon and Howard Carter entered the undisturbed tomb of the Egyptian boy-king Tutankhamun. In 1979 Chinese archaeologists uncovered the tomb of the emperor Qin Shihuangdi (supremacy 221-210BC). Inside was a buried army of 6000 life-sized terracotta warriors, each different from the rest and this was the greatest treasure uncovered by archaeologists.
